What Does “Proof Is In The Pudding” Mean?
“Proof Is In The Pudding” is simply my kennel name—a phrase I came up with many years ago. But it represents something much bigger.
It means:
We don’t guess. We prove.
At Protection Dog Sales, we are the largest provider of home-raised personal protection dogs in the world, and that allows us to do something most breeders simply cannot:
- We breed our own dogs
- We raise them in real homes
- We develop them over time
- We train and title them
- And most importantly… we live with them
That’s product proofing.
We are testing our own product every single day.
Why That Matters (And Where Others Fall Short)
Most breeders sell puppies and never see them again.
A year later, a buyer might call and say:
“This dog is a mess.”
But the breeder has no idea why.
- Was it poor training?
- Bad environment?
- Weak genetics?
They don’t know—and they can’t adjust their breeding program.
We don’t have that problem.
We control the entire process—from birth to adulthood—so we know exactly what we’re producing.
What We Breed For (And What We Don’t)
Let’s be clear:
We are not breeding:
- Police dogs
- Military dogs
- Sport dogs
- Show dogs
That’s not our market.
You are the market.
The family that wants:
- A regal, impressive dog
- A natural protector
- A fun, social, stable companion
- A dog that is safe in the home, confident in public, and controlled under pressure
Fixing the Doberman Problem
Dobermans, as a breed, tend to be:
- Reactive
- Defensive
- High-strung
That doesn’t work in a family environment.
So we’ve spent years breeding for:
- Longer fuse (less reactivity)
- Higher tolerance to stress and pressure
- Clear-headed decision making
- Stability in chaotic environments
At the same time, we’ve improved:
- Trainability
- Willingness to please
- Consistency across litters
Because a dog that’s too clever—but not cooperative—becomes a problem.
Genetics Matter — And So Does Selection
Our Dobermans are:
- 100% European working bloodlines
- Carefully selected for temperament first
- Built from generations of controlled breeding decisions
As a trainer first, I knew exactly what I needed in a dog—and I selected breeding stock accordingly.
This isn’t accidental.
This is engineered over time.
Let’s Talk Size (Because Everyone Asks)
I constantly hear:
“Do you have 120–150 lb Dobermans?”
No. And we never will.
Because:
- Bigger is not better
- Oversized dogs have shorter lifespans
- And that doesn’t make sense when you’re investing years of training
For us, longevity matters.
Our standard:
- Females: 60–65 lbs
- Males: 70–75 lbs
- Occasionally: low 80s, but that’s rare
We’re building dogs that last 12–13+ years, not 6–8.
The End Goal
Every “Proof Is In The Pudding” Doberman is bred for:
- Health
- Temperament
- Trainability
- Longevity
And most importantly…
A dog that fits seamlessly into a real family environment while still being a serious, capable protector.
